Besides “Uttrashwar temple” there is a “Sarpa Yagnakunda” (a sacred place to rituals and offerings to God), which is situated in Agrahat village of Choudwar.

What the legends of mythological epic of Mahabharata, “Choudwar” used to be capital of Cuttack. The Uttrashwar temple of Agrahat has been derived from the name of “Uttra” the Princess of King of Virat. Uttra had married Abhimanyu who was the son of Arjun and she had given birth to “Parikshit”. Being cursed, king Parikshit died due to snake bite of Sarpent king “Takshak”. By the sad demise of his father, Parikshit’s son “Janamejaya” had organised the “Sarpa Yagna” (a ritual in which snake are offered to the God of Fire) at Agrahat. In this yagyan taksak was made the last and final offering. This particular place is depleted condition in the premises of Uttareshwar temple. A lotus design has been engraved over the 100 sqft are on a square shaped floor. Live ashes from this yagna kund had filled a small pond (Jora) near by the temple and this led the name of its adjacent village as “Angara Jori”.
