ODISHA'S TIBET "CHANDRAGIRI"

No wonders if anyone calls “Chandragiri” as a mini-Tibet. It is a merging point of Tibetian and Odhisian culture and heritage in this place of Gajapati district. The Tibetian refugees had made this place as their new address of domicile after the attack of China 1960. More than 3000 refugees have been settled helps since last 5 decade, as well as have created a unique identify for Chandragir in International map.

Amongst them, there are many artists and craftsman from Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet who all have accomplished the Tibetian culture and handicraft. Culture loving Tibetians have also adopted the agriculture and farming of Odisha being linked here. A Buddist Monastery has been established here in 2003, which is located within the premises of 15 acres of land with an expenditure of 9 crores.

This particular convent expresses the spiritual feeling of people as well as it enlightens a new vision to Buddist philosophy. This shrine is having a prayer hall, administrative block, seminar block and a library. The cynosure of this place is a huge Golden Idol of Lord Budha. At its both side “Abalokitheswara” and “Padmsambhaba” are also worshiped as deities.

This place is famous for various types of fruits. There is also a Government Horticulture farm. Moreover the winter garments and carpets are woven by Tibetians can also be purchased. Not only these, but also Dog’s of hybrid species are breeded for sale. Enormous International tourist including Buddhist tourists visit here every year. This place Gajapati got its distinct recognition as a district on 2nd Oct 1992. The name of this place was inspired by the king’s name “Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Dev”.
